Arm Rejuvenation: A look at your options

The Woodlands arm lift is a surgical procedure that is done under general anesthesia in our state-of-the-art Houston surgical center. Dr. Lyos offers both a standard and a mini option.

With a standard arm lift, he will make an incision along your arm, from the armpit to the elbow. Through that lengthy opening, he will remove unwanted flab, trim away excess skin, and create a new, youthful contour. With a mini arm lift, Dr. Lyos will make one small incision hidden completely in your armpit. This option is best for patients who need to remove a small amount of skin and flab from their arms.

After arm lift surgery, you should expect to stay home from work for two to three weeks. During this time, it’s important to avoid strenuous activity and get plenty of rest. In terms of results, they will be optimal two to three months after surgery, once swelling has disappeared and your scars have healed.

If you have good skin quality, you may be a candidate for arm liposuction. With this procedure, Dr. Lyos will create a tiny incision and insert a steel tube (cannula) into the target area. He will then move the cannula back and forth to break up and suction out unwanted fat cells, artfully sculpting toned and slender arms.

After your arm lift in Houston surgery, you can look forward to a recovery period of around one to three days before you’ll be able to return to work.

J-Plasma is the latest in arm rejuvenation treatments. It uses cool plasma energy to tighten and revitalize aging skin throughout the face and body – including the arms. This in-office procedure is done under local anesthesia and works to tighten and firm loose arm skin.

It involves the same incision as liposuction requires, and is associated with a similar recovery period of one to three days.

Are the incisions noticeable?

The size and placement of your incision will depend on the type of arm lift you are having and how much skin and tissue are to be removed. During a mini surgical lift or arm liposuction the incision is short and placed in the armpit. Those incisions will heal to a thin line and are easily concealed.

Patients requiring a significant amount of tissue removal will need a longer incision. It is usually placed along the inside of the arm from the armpit to the elbow. Most people tend to keep their arms at their sides, so the scar is usually hidden by your natural stance.

What does the arm lift procedure consist of?

Your particular procedure will be determined by many factors. During your consultation Dr. Lyos will help you decide which procedure is right for you based on:

  • Your skin elasticity
  • The amount of skin and tissue to be removed
  • Your age and current health
  • Your medical history and any medical conditions

The following are typical arm lift procedures performed in Houston at our clinic. Your arm lift procedure will be customized to fit your desired physique.

Arm Lift Surgery

A surgical arm lift procedure is used when a significant amount of excess skin and tissue are present. Dr. Lyos offers two versions of the procedure: standard and mini. During the procedure, an incision is made down the back of your arm or the inside of your arm so it can be concealed. Excess skin and tissue are removed before the incision is closed.

Arm Liposuction

Liposuction is a minimally-invasive option for reducing stubborn fat on your arms. It is a great option for patients who have good skin elasticity and simply have stubborn fat. A small incision is made and a tube also known as a cannula is inserted. The cannula is moved back and forth to dislodge fat that is then vacuumed away by the device.

J-Plasma

This revolutionary procedure is another minimally-invasive option for revitalizing your arms. Small incisions similar to those used during liposuction are also used in this procedure. Once the incision is made, helium plasma energy is delivered to the area. The helium plasma energy stimulates the production of collagen and tightens the skin in the area.

About Your Recovery

The length of your recovery will depend upon your specific arm lift procedure and your body’s healing process. Arm lift surgery requires a larger incision but will yield the most dramatic results for those with a significant amount of excess skin and fat. You will likely need time off work and limit strenuous activities. Your scar will heal into a thin line and can be concealed with clothing or your natural stance with your arms at your sides.

Liposuction and J-Plasma procedures do not require as much downtime. The incisions are smaller, but you may experience some bruising or swelling in the area. Discomfort is usually minimal and easily controlled with over-the-counter pain medication. The incisions are typically well-hidden and easy to cover with clothing.

How long will my resultslast after an arm lift?

The results of your arm lift will vary based on the procedure. Paired with a healthy lifestyle, your results should last many years.

Significant changes to your weight can cause you to accumulate fat in your arms once again, so you should maintain a healthy weight in order to prolong your results. A healthy diet will also keep your skin vibrant and youthful. Moisturize your skin regularly and apply sunscreen when you are going to be in the sun for any period of time.

Which arm rejuvenation treatment is right for you?

Your ideal arm rejuvenation treatment will depend on the quality of your skin, how much fat you’d like to remove, and your personal preferences. Dr. Lyos will help you choose the procedure that’s right for you, but here’s a general guide:

Arm liposuction

is best for our clients in Houston and the Woodlands who only need to remove unwanted fat – not excess skin.

Arm lift

is best for patients who want to trim away sagging skin and remove unwanted fat.

J-Plasma

is best if you want a non-surgical solution to arm contouring.
