New laser technology has enabled Dr. Lyos to remove areas of damaged or wrinkled skin, layer by layer. The laser works by using a beam of laser energy to vaporized the upper layers of damaged skin at controlled levels of penetration. As new cells form during the healing process, a smoother, tighter, younger-looking skin appears. The laser is most commonly used to reduce the fine lines, especially around the eyes and mouth. This procedure is frequently combined with facial rejuvenation surgery such as facelift and eyelid lift.
This procedure may be performed as an outpatient using local anesthesia with some medications to help you feel relaxed. For more extensive resurfacing, Dr. Lyos may recommend a light general anesthesia. Some mild swelling and discomfort occurs afterwards, but it is controlled with ice compresses, ointments, and medication.
