Fat injections and dermal fillers both accomplish similar objectives: to smooth wrinkles, fill in hollow areas and restore lost volume. However, there are two key differences between the two approaches:

Natural vs foreign

Fat injections are all-natural and don't involve injecting a foreign substance into the body. As such, they are a great option for sensitive and allergic patients.

In general, fat transfer results tend to last longer than dermal fillers - often enduring up to two years. Conversely, most dermal fillers dissipate within several months, though some can last one to two years.

The Procedure

Dr. Lyos will perform your fat transfer under local anesthesia in the comfort of our Houston or Woodlands office. Here's what to expect during your appointment:

Step one: Fat removal

Your fat transfer will begin with gentle liposuction to remove a small amount of excess fat from another area of your body, such as the abdomen, thighs and jowls. This procedure will be “low-suction” to ensure that your fat cells are in optimal condition for the transfer.

Step two: Processing + cleansing the fat

Once liposuction is complete, Dr. Lyos will spin the extracted fat in a centrifuge to separate the fat cells from the liquid that was also removed via the procedure. He will then select whole, undamaged fat cells and cleanse them for the transfer.

Step three: Injecting the fat

To complete your procedure, Dr. Lyos will inject the processed fat into key areas of your face with the goal of contouring, enhancing and volumizing your features. These injections will be artfully placed at various depths to ensure a natural outcome.
