Surgery of the Ears Houston
Aesthetic ear surgery is utilized to reshape the ear by altering the size, position, or configuration of protruding or abnormal ears. Usually, the candidate for this surgery has ears that are too large, that protrude from the head, that have an undeveloped middle fold, or that have a deformity. Oftentimes, protruding ears can be the focus of ridicule and teasing. Although hair styles can be created to cover the problem, this is not a permanent treatment.
Most aesthetic ear surgery is performed between the ages of four and 14, but adults are also prime candidates for otoplasty. Otoplasty ear surgery is occasionally performed earlier in cases of more pronounced deformity.
The procedure is performed under general anesthesia in children, while adults may elect to have an otoplasty with general or local anesthesia. The surgery is generally performed on an outpatient basis, with return home the same day.
During the procedure, Dr. Lyos will make an incision behind the ear. A head dressing is applied immediately after surgery, and on its removal, a headband is worn at night for a few weeks to keep the ears in their corrected position. Minor swelling and discoloration which occurs will subside in a few weeks.
