Rhinoplasty enhances a profile by reshaping the nose. This procedure can be cosmetic or reconstructive depending on whether the nose has been disfigured or if the person simply desires a smaller, shapelier nose. In many cases, rhinoplasty improves the ability to breathe.
Rhinoplasty can reduce or increase the overall size of a nose, change the shape of the tip or the bridge, narrow the nostrils, or even improve the angle between the nose and upper lip. Generally, any or all of these changes can be made during the operation which usually lasts two to three hours. An outpatient procedure, the operation can be performed using a twilight or light general anesthesia. Many people return to their normal routine after one week.
Rhinoplasty is performed for both cosmetic and reconstructive purposes such as birth defect, breathing problem, or trauma. Most insurers do not cover cosmetic procedures, however, reconstructive procedures may be covered and Dr. Lyos’ office will assist you in obtaining the necessary pre-certification prior to scheduling your surgery.
While most changes are subtler, the results of rhinoplasty can be dramatic, especially if you have a very large hump or drooping tip. Dr. Lyos strives to achieve a natural appearance, producing a pleasing change which is in balance with your facial features. The idea is to enhance or improve your nose without drawing attention to the change.
