Mommy Makeover - Houston & The Woodlands, TX

A mommy makeover is a blend of cosmetic procedures that are performed with the goal of restoring your pre-baby body.

Discover you again after baby

Pregnancy, childbirth and breastfeeding are incredibly fulfilling, joyful experiences – that also tend to accompany permanent, unwanted physical changes to a woman’s body. Sagging skin, stretch marks, stubborn fat deposits and drooping breasts can make you feel as though you’ve lost yourself to motherhood. When this occurs, many of our Houston clients choose to have a mommy makeover to rediscover their pre-baby figures.

Mommy Makeover Patient Review

I am 2 months post mommy makeover (breast reduction and lift with tummy tuck) and I am thrilled with my results so far. I have been thinking about doing this for a couple of years and I wish I did it when I first started thinking about it. Two of my friends, who are former patients of his, recommended Dr. Lyos to me and I'm so glad I listened to them. He did a fantastic job! Would highly recommend him and have already recommended him to another friend of mine.

Who is a Candidate For a Mommy Makeover?

When should I have a mommy makeover?

Some new mothers may be anxious to get back their pre-baby body, but there are a few things to take into consideration before having any cosmetic procedures. It is highly recommended that you wait to have your mommy makeover until you are done having children. The stretching that your body does to accommodate a baby can negate the results of your procedure.

Breast procedures in particular should also wait until after you have stopped breastfeeding. It takes your breasts about six months to stabilize in size and shape, and Dr. Lyos will be able to better plan for your aesthetic goals.

Finally, you should be at or near your goal weight for at least six months before considering surgery. Your commitment to maintaining a healthy lifestyle will extend the longevity of your svelte figure.

You may be considered an ideal candidate to undergo our mommy makeover in Houston if you:

  • Have lost the baby weight, but excess skin, cellulite, sagging tissue and fatty deposits remain.
  • Are not planning on having any more children.
  • Gave birth vaginally or had a C-section.
  • Are in good overall health.
Your post-baby body: 100% customized. 100% yours.

About the Procedure

Each mommy makeover can be individualized to fit your needs. A makeover consists of a combination of procedures that address common post-pregnancy concerns. Usually ranging between two and four procedures in total, a mommy makeover can help you feel like yourself once again. A mommy makeover typically involves the following procedures:

Liposuction

Many women choose to undergo liposuction during their mommy makeover. This safe and time-proven procedure can reduce fat virtually anywhere on the face and body, with common treatment locations being the thighs, buttocks, arms and abdomen.

Liposuction reduces stubborn fat that can accumulate in the flanks (love handles), stomach, thighs, or other areas. A small incision is made near the treatment area and a tube, or cannula, is inserted and used to dislodge fat.

Breast surgery

Breastfeeding and pregnancy can take an enormous toll on your breasts. As such, it's no surprise that breast lifts, augmentations and reductions are very common mommy makeover procedures among our Houston patients.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding can leave your breasts looking deflated or saggy. During a breast lift, excess tissue is trimmed away to improve the shape and positioning of your breasts. If you desire larger breasts, a lift can be paired with a breast augmentation in order to add volume. In some cases, new moms desire a breast reduction so their breasts remain in proportion with their figure.

Tummy tuck

After pregnancy, the abdominal area may appear loose and flabby. When this occurs, a tummy tuck can be performed under general anesthesia to trim away excess skin, improve the appearance of stretch marks, and remove unwanted flab.

The stomach is often one of the most affected areas on a woman’s body after pregnancy. Housing your little one for so long can stretch out the skin and weaken the muscles. During a tummy tuck, an incision is placed horizontally across the lower abdomen. The abdominal muscles are pulled tight and secured, and then excess fat and tissue are removed.

Lower body lift

If your lower body appears heavier and droopier after pregnancy, a comprehensive lift can create a brand new contour by tightening lax muscles and trimming away excess skin throughout the abdomen, thighs and buttocks. This procedure is done under general anesthesia and requires an extensive incision around the waist, hips and thighs.

A lower body lift can be used to address more than just your stomach. Loose skin and weakened muscles can leave your entire midsection looking droopy. An extensive incision is made around your lower waist and excess skin and fat are removed from your abdomen, waist, thighs, groin, and buttocks. It is the most involved procedure of a mommy makeover, but can provide dramatic results.

Recovery After a Mommy Makeover

Recovery will vary among patients. Each mommy makeover is customized to address your specific concerns, and your recovery will be determined by the number of procedures you have, the amount of tissue, skin, and fat that are removed, and your body’s own healing process. You will likely need some time off work and may need help around the house for the first few days. Dr. Lyos will monitor your healing at every step of the way.

FAQ

When is the ideal time to schedule a mommy makeover?

Your mommy makeover timeline will depend on a variety of factors – from your personal preferences to your future pregnancy and weight loss plans. If there is a chance that you will lose weight or experience another pregnancy, or if your body is still recovering from childbirth, Dr. Lyos may recommend delaying the procedure. In addition, some of our mommy makeover patients choose to have their procedures done in stages to avoid a lengthy recovery period and difficult surgical experience.

Will there be a lot of scars?

Yes, there will always be scars; no, there should not be any obvious and very unsightly scarring. Any time that an incision is made in any part of the body, a scar will result. Excellent surgical skill comes into play in ensuring that the incisions made and the suturing techniques used, result in the thinnest and least obvious scars possible. With a good surgeon, most patients will find that their scars are virtually imperceptible. Scars are typically elevated and of a different color than surrounding skin for up to 6 months, after which they flatten out and fade. A patient’s own careful postoperative care is very important to good scar healing and staying out of the sun, remaining hydrated, and using topical creams will aid healing.

Can facial procedures be added to a Mommy Makeover?

A mommy makeover doesn’t traditionally include any surgical work on the face, since its main goal is to help a mother return her body to its pre-pregnancy state or better, particularly in those areas most impacted by pregnancy. However, the procedure is also done entirely for the mother and if she so desires facial plastic surgeries as well, they can certainly be part of the procedure. Depending on the extent of the surgical work involved, these procedures can be done at the same time as a tummy tuck, lipo, or vaginal rejuvenation.

Should I Wait Until After I’m Finished Having Children?

It is best to wait until after you are finished having children to undergo a mommy makeover. You want the results to be long-lasting, and another pregnancy poses a risk stretching muscles, causing new stretch marks, and once again leaving you with stretched, loose abdominal skin. Restoring your pre-baby body can help you feel more confident in your appearance – but you want the results to last. It is advised that you wait until you are done having children to undergo a mommy makeover, for your own benefit.

Are There Any Risks?

A mommy makeover, as with any surgery, poses some risks. There will be bruising and swelling and the potential for bleeding, blood clots and infection. There may also be the risk of numbness or reduced sensation at the surgical site which typically subsides over time. It is important that this procedure is performed by a highly-skilled board-certified surgeon who uses the most advanced techniques and adheres to the most stringent safety protocols.

How do I Prepare for a Mommy Makeover?

Preparing for a mommy makeover involves a few basic but important steps. It all starts with a consultation with Dr. Lyos. You will discuss your cosmetic goals and undergo a medical assessment, you must be in good general health, a non-smoker, and at a healthy weight to undergo the procedure. Blood thinning medications and supplements must be stopped for several weeks prior to your surgical appointment.

Eat healthy foods, drink plenty of water, and avoid alcohol prior to your surgery. The healthier you are, the faster you will heal. Plan for your recovery by enlisting help from friends or family for your usual tasks, including childcare, pet care, grocery shopping, and meal preparation. You will need assistance in the early stages of recovery to bathe and visit the bathroom. Get all prescriptions filled prior to your surgical appointment and arrange for transportation home. If you wish to learn more, contact us today and schedule a consultation for arguably the best mommy makeover Houston, TX has to offer.
